Basing the whole boot camp from a lot of fics i have read, I would read Along came a bee/ by Needs_to_stop_looking_at_valves Soundwave accompanied Megatron to the Kalahari Desert, where they both overlooked their human slaves piling unimaginable amounts of coal into an underground cave. There, he complained about the desert sand getting into his cassette drives and fouling his transmissions, only to be berated by Megatron for his whining. Amidst Megatron's constant bullying, Soundwave assured his leader that their plan would soon come to fruition; the cave would be cocooned in a layer of lectonite, which upon exploding would convert the charcoal into a diamond of enormous proportions, ready to be used in the next phase of Megatron's plan. While he was stationed in Earth’s orbit, Soundwave would swiftly tap into every satellite within range, enabling all sorts of communications and media to flood his sensor net within minutes. The spill of this data filled him with pleasure as the humans' systems come under his complete control. From his seat on high, Soundwave could control the destiny of mankind without their knowledge, even if it would mean running their civilization into the ground. His fall was intercepted by the Terrorcon Nightbird, but he overpowered her, initially using the Terrorcon as a shield against Scourge's shots before the young Autobot impaled Nightbird's spark with one of her own wings, destroying her as he landed.
