Love Shack Baby!
The 19th of March 2016 was a good day; it was our 3rd wedding anniversary and we found a very cool way to celebrate it. David Bailey was speaking at The Photo Show at the N.E.C. in Birmingham, and it was only after I booked the tickets that I realised it was our anniversary on that date (bad wife, bad!) So I quickly got my ass on the internet and started looking for some nice accommodation. I was looking for somewhere not too far from the N.E.C. but somewhere close to a good place to eat. And then I found Little Bridge Cottage. Only a ten minute drive from the arena, the location was perfect. When we arrived there, we found it was more than perfect; set in an idyllic spot just next to the river in Lea Marston, you wouldn’t know you were minutes away from the very busy main roads. Our host Karen was extremely welcoming and her daughter who is training to be a chef, made us feel at home straight away presenting us with some homemade cookies and amazing smelling coffee. Exactly what we needed after a long drive! We found a bottle of prosecco in the fridge too, a gift from the owners to celebrate our anniversary. Such a cute touch! We stayed in the main house in the cottage which is split over two floors and very beautifully decorated. It really had a feel of a luxury 5 star accommodation. The bonus to the place was that in the grounds, it had what was called an ‘Arctic hut’, a gorgeous quaint little building nestled in the gardens. It was all kitted out with Scandinavian type decor; cosy rugs and cushions were scattered all around, candle lanterns hung from the ceiling (James managed to walk in to these several times, I don’t know how he managed it!) and the centrepiece to the room was a fire pit. They brought us hampers FULL of food for us to cook on the fire. We had homemade bread, nibbles in the form of honey glazed nuts and olives and then salmon with salad, sirloin steak with dauphinoise potatoes and pudding was roast peaches with amaretti biscuits and mascarpone. Let’s say I couldn’t move for a wee while after! The next morning we were treated to a brekkie of scrambled eggs, salmon, tomato and rocket. We were presented with a large list of options but after the feast the banquet before, the lighter option was just right! If you’re looking for a getaway, I would 100% recommend Little Bridge Cottage. The accommodation was perfect, the hosts couldn’t do enough for you and you’ll come away feeling so relaxed. Oh, and David Bailey was bloody brilliant, but the hut definitely made the anniversary special!
