Great Hall at Mains Wedding Photography – Sophie & Stewart; The Great Hall at Mains in Poulton is one of our favourite local venues, and it was a pleasure to come back here for Sophie & Stewart’s wedding.
We started the day in Bury, where we met the girls frantically preparing, pain-au-cocolat-a-plenty, and our nervous groom-to-be Stewart hiding in the car to be passed last-minute details for the reception venue. So, a typical frantic morning, and we got stuck right into the action. One of the things about being a documentary wedding photographer, is we have to make sense of the chaos. We have to take a house full of action, laughs, hugs, preparing, outfits, makeup artists, and all the day-to-day family life too. The nerves, the excitement, the anticipation – and somehow make sense of it all to be able to truly tell the unique story of a wedding.
Sophie & Stewart’s day was no exception, and I left Katie in the action to head to The Shard Riverside Inn, a stones-throw from our final destination – The Great Hall at Mains in Poulton. Sitting outside by the river, I met family and friends before heading over for last-minute tweaks to the venue details with Stuart and his best man.
After getting ready in a hurry, we headed back over to the venue to meet guests and wait for the bridal party. Katie was travelling on a gorgeous vintage bus, at a stately thirty miles per hour, with our prosecco-fuelled bridal party in great spirits.
We were waiting at the front of the ceremony room, nerves running high, the anticipation building. We spotted the bridal party arriving through the glass back wall of the building. Then one of the most beautiful moments we’ve witnessed happened. Sophie & Stewart’s son, spotting his mum as a bride-to-be appearing at the end of the aisle, ran full-pelt down the aisle to greet her. Laughs, tears, everything erupted, and we were so glad to capture this moment as part of the story of the day.
After the ceremony, we took Sophie & Stewart away for a few moments on their vintage bus, for a breather, a minute of alone time, and of course to get a couple of portraits of them as a new Mr & Mrs.
After some emotional speeches, it was time for the party to start. There was just time to catch the evening light as darkness descended on the Lancashire countryside surrounding this beautiful place. We stayed, we partied, and we had an absolute blast before heading home very content. We can’t thank you enough for involving us in your big day xxx
