About this deal

All in all, a great tool for the artist that wants to move from the low intermediate to high intermediate. brown cloth, 120 pp, covers a bit worn with some adhesion marks on front cover, extremities bumped and fraying, hinges loose, contents (esp end papers) toned else a nice copy in worn, edge torn and edge chipped dust jacket.

The section on how to draw cast shadows according to specific angles was difficult for me to understand.May contain markings such as bookplates, stamps, limited notes and highlighting, or a few light stains. With delightful step-by-step instruction from Professor Blook, Loomis's charming alter ego on the page. Here Loomis gets away from his casual way of communicating to the reader and into more technical jargon. here puts down in black and white a method which will teach anyone, no matter who awkward he is with his fingers, to draw. Light blue cloth with slight color fading at edges of boards and spine, slender white streak to lower rear board.

The only downside to this book (and most of Loomis's books) is his personal style is extremely specific and a tad outdated and it can make modernizing some of his figure and facial drawings difficult. This method has proved effective for the novice and to individuals who believed they had no ability at all. Andrew seems to genuinely want you to become proficient and maybe even even excellent as an artist if you catch the drawing bug. If there was a reprint of this with annotations and a disclaimer of some sort, then it probably wouldn't have such a low rating from me. I loved the section on facial expressions and how he encourages drawing from the imagination through the use of the basic construction framework.

star for pointless racism (if you wanna draw the receding hairlines of middle aged white men, oh boy, do you have diversity *there* :/. Written in the 1930s, there is a wholesomeness to this book that reminds artist that creation is fun. I personally was way too advanced for this particular book and found it to be a little too silly and immature for the kind of art I create so I had to give it a lower rating. All the principles are very HARD things to do, and mastering these concepts will require much* further practice after copying everything from the book. My main criticism is that this book is labelled as a book for beginners, however the content gets increasingly more difficult towards the end of the book when Loomis dives into complicated perspective and shadow construction drawings with little explanation to aid in understanding them. Those are fine to look at, but the physical book is far,far batter for reference and to compare and consider approaches to drawing.

Andrew Loomis is revered amongst artists including comics superstar Alex Ross for his mastery of drawing. Make no mistake, the drawing principles exposed here are extremely hard, and 70% of the illustrators of today do not draw this good. Andrew Loomis's lessons are classic and simple to follow and provide enough structure to even encourage those people who don't think they can draw at all. I'm reading here that people don't think this is a good book for beginners, but I started with this book and learned how to draw well from the techniques.

Page edges browned, pages lightly browned but very clean, no markings, minor foxing to endpages, binding strong.Released by Titan Books, London, UK it's worth time spent in studying and performing exercises in each chapter. That being said anything Andrew Loomis does is classic and provides a pretty solid foundation for those who don't know where to start. very nice and simple visual introduction to anatomy and perspective, upped my doodle game magnitudes.
